The inkblot on the cover of Carl Jung's “Man and His Symbols " kinda looks like a Gekko from Metal Gear Solid 4,and check out the Ouroboros snake underneath. As a symbol of cyclicality,Jung saw the Ouroboros as an archetype of man's psyche (maintain psyche meter in MGS4)

The book Man and his Symbols also offers an analysis of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast, which Metal Gear Solid 4 alludes to several times
Man and his symbols is a good book on archetypes and symbolism in general, there are many other small things in this book that pop up in MGS4,just as they do in life and art.
